Friday Links 5/24
I have neglected to update any links for several weeks, but want to get back to it. I know it has been two months since the last Friday links, but since my last post we have worked through testing and the end of the year activities. In addition to that my family is preparing to move after 20 years in the same community. I hope to get back to a regular schedule soon and will hopefully return to the podcast version of some of my posts as well.
To get us started this week I wanted to share a podcast I have started listening to that I think many of you may enjoy.
From Bell to Bell Podcast-A Podcast About School
There are 13 episodes of @bell2bellpod as of the original date of this post. I was introduced to it when my college roommate, @andy4edu, was a guest on the podcast. Andy has since joined as a co-host with @scandela9 for the podcast. In a nutshell, the podcast invites educators to choose a movie, tv show, etc., that is somehow related to schools/education and talk about it, good, bad and ugly. It is an interesting take on how Hollywood views teachers and education from the point of view of teachers.
Favorite Tweets
This tweet from this week really caught my attention and is a reminder we need to give to ourselves and our students about how to handle social media and criticism.
On the opposite side of the previous tweet comes a reminder when you feel the urge to criticize or open your mouth.
This next tweet I felt was really relevant when I saved it and I realize it may be a little late for some of you to use this year. But save it for next year.
Summer Reading
Now that most of you have wrapped up for the year, what are you doing to prepare for next year? Are you doing anything to prepare? If you are looking for some reading to help you prepare for next year, let me share with you what I have on my list this summer. Hopefully I can find the time to get through them.
Professional Learning Opportunities
Finally, I want to share with you a professional learning opportunity that was share with me. It is a free and virtual opportunity called STEAM Week. In their words, here is what STEAM Week is all about:
Have a great weekend.

Granted, there are times when we have to take criticism no matter what our feelings are towards the person giving the critique. Hopefully the person has your best interest in mind, but if they don't, keep this advice in mind.Saw this fantastic piece of leadership advice this morning...”don’t take criticism from people you would never go to for advice” #oklaed— Dr. Jason James (@James409Jason) May 21, 2019
