Flipping Podcasts!!!!

Many of you are wanting to, or are being told you need to "flip" your classroom.  One problem, you have no clue what that means.  In a nutshell, the flipped model works under the premise that the lecture component of the lesson is done outside of the classroom.  This leaves the "homework" to be done in class so that students have more time to ask questions and seek individual help on the topic.  Look at the infographic below for a little bit more information.  You may need to open it in another screen to get it large enough to view all of it clearly.

This graphic gives some of the details about the benefits of used a flipped lesson.  But the question remains, "How?"  Here are some tips to help you along the way.

1.  Take your normal lesson that you plan to use in class.
2.  Find or make a video to go with that lesson.  Here is one tool for recording a lesson.

3.  Once you find the video, share it with your students somehow.
4.  Take what you would normally assign as homework and do it in class.
5.  Don't sit down!!! Use this time to work with students one on one.  Roam around the room and check for understanding.
6.  Pre-grade (If that wasn't a word, it is now) the work.  This is something that is done very well by many teachers in the lower grades.  As you walk around the room, mark the answers that you notice are correct and give feedback about incorrect answers to guide students toward a deeper understanding of the concept.

As you do this more and more, you will be able to create assignments that allow for more creativity for your students and encourages a much deeper level of understanding.

If you have a series of lessons, or would like to make all of your lessons available you can create the videos you need and save them to YouTube.  If you put all of these videos in a playlist, you can create your own podcast from this playlist.
